SWAT Lab is a leader in
the use of automated provisioning and virtualization technologies to decrease

virtualization environments supplement our automated
provisioning of native environments to produce the most efficient and

The
environment in which your software must run is always expanding as new
technology becomes available. The task of building and deploying these
environments for testing becomes a tedious and time consuming task. SWAT Lab’s
automated provisioning architecture allows SWAT Lab to build up complex testing
environments and save them in a library for later use. Over time we have built
a matrix of environments that represent a wide range of Middleware and Backend,
and Client configurations.
The new hardware
virtualization technology in Intel-VT-x and AMD-Pacifica CPU’s allows full test
environments to be virtualized in a minimal amount time. Using virtualization,
a complete multi-tier environment including Domain servers, Clusters and Load
Balancers can be created and perform at native speeds.
When it comes
time to deploy these test environments, we simply execute our
automated scripts to load the appropriate configurations. An environment might
include five XPSP2 workstations, one Vista
workstation, a Windows 2003 Domain Controller and a Windows 2003 SQL server.
This environment can be deployed in minutes to conduct testing or to perform
regression on a software failure, significantly reducing the time it takes to
switch between different test environments.
The lab
provisioning is all controlled by an automated process using scripts and
imaging tools. Once we have the test matrix requirements for the application
under test we execute the automated scripts to build the necessary test
environment. When the functional testing of the application has been completed
for that test scenario, another script will execute to build up the next test
environment. This process will continue until all configurations have been
completed.
